The F2 Class is a class of express passenger locomotives designed by Howard Knott at the Eastern & Atlantic's Richmond Works.
The major Eastern roads in the early teens were developing new 4-6-2's for their fast passenger trains. To compete with such classes as the Pennsylvania K4, Howard Knott designed the F2 Class. This class had large 83 inch drivers, and belpaire fireboxes.
The class was a success, with some of them even being streamlined at a later date. 250 were built between 1915-1920. The streamlined locomotives were designated F2a Class.
